To meet the high demands for driving dynamics, agility and precision, BMW designed the innovative M high-performance chassis.
Stiffening of the front of the car optimizes stability and increases the precision of steering responses. The two front-suspension strut towers are connected to the chassis by an aluminum suspension cross-brace. Just as invisible, but very noticeable, is the Active M Differential on the rear axle, which enables tremendous acceleration and is available for the first time in the BMW M5. The rear axle itself is rigidly mounted to the rear floor, ensuring racecar-like responsiveness from the uniquely design M rear suspension. The three settings on the Dynamic Damping Control – Normal, Sport and Sport+ – allow you to adjust the suspension for ride quality and handling response. All suspension "hardpoints" are reinforced for M driving duties, and the unique M suspension system features aluminum-intensive construction to save weight while increasing strength and durability.
